KFJC Engineering
Studios and Transmitter KFJC is much more than the DJs on the air and the bands that play during our regular live mic events. We have three modern studios which are used for broadcasting, production and training. We have the fortunate position of a well-located transmitter which gives us good coverage thoughout the southern Bay Area. We also have remote broadcast capability, either by line-of-sight with our transmitter or over ISDN lines which allows us to participate in remote events in the area or nearly anywhere in the world. Our recent fundraisers have given us the ability to significantly upgrade our 'Master' and 'Upper' studios with digital boards and relatively new equipment. Each studio has a full complement of CD players, turntables, mini-disk recorder/players (used for pre-recorded 'spots'), a VCR player, a DVD/CD player, cassette tape decks, a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) deck and other equipment. We are on the Emergency Alert System (EAS) chain and receive alerts as they occur from KCBS or KGO which are the two 'primary' alert senders in the Bay Area. KFJC broadcasts 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The station is located at 89.7 MHz in the FM band, channel 209. Our transmitter is located on Black Mountain, in the Montebello Open Space Preserve, south of Los Altos. We use a QEI 675 500 watt transmitter and Micro Controls PTS-10C studio-transmitter link.

Latest additions to our arsenal include Telos Zephyr ISDN codec boxes to allow remote broadcasts from anywhere in the world (with ISDN lines, that is!) KFJC records a large number of live performances throughout each year, mainly in the world-famous "Pit" (our in-house studio) but also in other venues on campus and throughout the bay area. We have a full digital mobile recording setup that we use to capture these unique sounds.
