Radio Caroline: The Early Years

Saturday, Mayhem 12 12:00pm — 3:00pm

Saturday Mayhem 12 Noon to 3pm
Presented by Ann Arbor with special guests DJ Bobo Z and Tom Lodge (formerly of Radio Caroline).

Founded in 1964 by Ronan O' Rahilly, a club owner and band manager, Radio Caroline began broadcasting from the ex-passenger ferry MV Ferdericia anchored in international waters 3 miles off the coast of Essex, southeast, England. The name Caroline refers to Caroline Kennedy, daughter of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. We'll revisit the early years of this infamous pirate radio station which had 23 million listeners, through the reminiscences of Tom Lodge who was a part of the station from the beginning, and play some of the music heard on Radio Caroline at that time.
