KFJC 89.7FM

Departments

What the hell goes on behind the scenes at KFJC?

Engineering Department

Responsible for all the electrons chasing around the station - from the point where a needle hits the vinyl (or a laser hits a CD) to the time our signal leaves the antenna or races over the Internet on its way to your ears.

Music Department

The people that poll the world over and get all that wonderful music into our library. They oversee the process of music reviews and maintain our "current" library.

Production Department

Ever wonder who does those great 'spots' promoting events for KFJC such as the fundraiser, special events or even other shows? The Production Department is responsible for producing and approving spots as well as training new participants how to run the production equipment. We've got two fully equipped studios plus several computers in the station lobby that are used for production.

Programming Department

The Program Director is responsible for the on-air schedule, including approving new DJs for broadcast. The PD approves shows, sets the weekly schedule and sets the break clock including break formats.

Promotions Department

The Promotions Department is KFJC's liaison to local clubs and venues. The department is repsonsible for the production of the Concert Outlook and Entertainment Calendar - a comprehensive look at the live events happening throughout the Bay Area, with a special emphasis on the wide variety of music featured on KFJC itself. The Concert Outlook is recorded weekly and is broadcast daily at 5:30am, 8:30am, 12:30pm and 5:30pm, with the daily Entertainment Calendar read afterwards.

KFJC also offers free tickets and passes to appropriate local shows and events. These give-aways are organized by the promotions department and presented to our DJs to distribute to listeners over the air.

In addition, KFJC co-promotes shows and concerts of interest, which will be listed on our events page. KFJC personnel attend these events and have a table with station information and merchandise.

Public Affairs Department

In addition to music, KFJC offers public affairs programming including Thoughtline, For the Record and occasional news-oriented specials.

Publicity Department

The Publicity Department is responsible for the outbound marketing of the station. Currently this consists of working with the local press to publicize the station's specials and events, posting program listings, pursuing story ideas, etc., as well as producing regular emails for the listeners email list and producing/mailing program guides at least once yearly, often more!

Public Service Announcement (PSA) Department

As a condition of our broadcast license, KFJC must act as an agent of public good in our community. Part of that community service comes in the form of public service announcements which promote the activities of non-profit groups, government agencies or other matters of public interest. Station personnel are given work credit for the creation of these announcements which are read several times each show by the DJs. The Public Service Announcement manager collects and posts these announcements and ensures that time sensitive materials are correctly handled.

If you are a non-profit (501.3c) corporation or government agency, contact the public service department via our feedback page to submit your public service announcement material. KFJC reserves the right to choose which materials to present to its audience.

Traffic Department

In accordance with FCC regulations, we keep strict logs of all station business conducted over the air. These logs are the DJ's cue to conduct business including legal IDs, Public Service Announcements, Underwriting, EAS tests and other station business. The Traffic Department is responsible for creating and ensuring the accuracy of the station log files.

Training Department

Owing to our affiliation with Foothill College, KFJC serves as a training ground for all aspects of radio operation. The training starts with a formal Foothill community education class and extends through the rest of anyone's affiliation to the station.

Treasury Department

Someone gets to keep us running straight! The Treasury Department oversees the balance sheet, the income statement, the bottom line, and lovingly caresses each and every donation check.
