Much can be said about how little we really know about Les Rallizes Denudes. They were active for almost 30 years but never officially released an album. An early bass player participated in a plane hijacking 1970 and is living in exile in North Korea. The lead singer Takashi Mizutani avoids public appearance and is surrounded by secrecy, believed by diverse credible sources to be living simultaneously on different continents and in various states of mental and physical health. At the center of all of the speculation is a collection of amazing bootleg recordings that are a widely acknowledged cornerstone of Japanese psychedelic music. Laconic rhythms support an incredible overdriven guitar sound accompanied by a French-English-Japanese mashup dialect sung by Mizutani that is unforgettable in its unique extremity. This special will focus on the available recorded works of Les Rallizes Denudes along with exploring some of the history and speculation surrounding the band.
