First Generation Bluegrass

Bluegrass is a form of American roots music. Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, characterized the music as "Scottish bagpipes and old-time fiddlin'. It's Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. It's blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound." This program will focus on 18 of the first generation bluegrass groups, from the 1940s through the mid-60s.
