Prog at the dawn of prog: Keith Emerson, Lee Jackson, David O'List and Ian Hague formed the group to back soul singer P.P. Arnold. They blended rock, jazz and classical music. The group's sound was centered on Emerson's Hammond organ showmanship and abuse of the instrument. They radically rearranged classical music themes, Bob Dylan songs and Broadway show tunes.
