Robert Wyatt: Machines, Moles, and Mao
Hosted by Max Level and Art Crimes
Robert Wyatt has outlasted many of his companions from those psychedelic days
in London, when Soft Machine was constantly gigging at UFO with the likes of the
Syd-era Pink Floyd. But a drunken tumble out of a window ended his drumming career,
leading to his reinvention as a singer, songwriter and creative magnet for the
luminaries that have happily worked with him in the last 20 years, folks like Elvis
Costello, Nick Mason, Brian Eno and Paul Weller. Wyatt has graced the charts once
or twice with other people's songs, but his own compositions, written with his wife
Alfie, are unmatched for their sensitivity and originality. With music and
interviews, Max Level and Art Crimes will take you back to Swinging London with
Soft Machine, play politics with Matching Mole, hang out with jazz heavyweights
like Carla Bley, and bring you up to speed on Wyatt's solo career, including his
latest release, Cuckooland.
