The virtuosic clarinetist John Carter died in 1991, but not before leaving 25 years of stunning music that defies categorization. Carter's work, especially his Octets, has a deep aura of mystery: it sounds abstract, yet swings- it feels ancient, but also futuristic. This five hour special will focus on his life and music, featuring interviews with his friends and musical collaborators- cornet player Bobby Bradford, multi-instrumentalist Vinnie Golia and guitarist Nels Cline.
