Conventional records are cut with a continuous spiral groove so that a turntable stylus proceeds in a more or less orderly fashion from the outer edge of the record to the center. It is possible, however, to cut a track such that the stylus gets trapped into a never-ending circuit at the end. This is called a locked groove, and will play and play (and play some more) until the record (or your patience) wears out. There exist records consisting of nothing but locked grooves, one of the more infamous being RRR Record's RRR 500, a 12-inch hunk of vinyl with 500 locked grooves. This sort of record can be a powerful DJ tool, rather like having your own analog sampler on a little piece of plastic. With this in mind, consider the possibilities latent in 5 turntables, a fistful of locked groove records, one deranged DJ, and 3 hours of air time. You have been warned.
