KFJC rebroadcasts a special that originally aired on Mayhem 19, 2011 (see playlist). The primal aesthetic of "2 guitars, bass, and drums" still holds sway with the great majority of most rock outfits. However, what to do when the abilities (and/or egos) of both guitarists threaten the treasured dynamic of rhythm + lead? Result: Two lead guitarists! We shall examine, celebrate, and quite literally dissect (through the magic of stereo separation) the double lead guitar throughout the Rock Era. Harmony, interplay, trade-offs, call & response, counter punching, and the elusive (but glorious) simultaneous solo will all be experienced anew. From primitive proto-punk and psychedelia, through the time honored twin leads of classic 70's FM rock, to poly-rhythmic post rock and experimental noise, no double axis of axes will be off limits.
