JPT Scare Band

Formed in Kansas City, Missouri in 1973, JPT Scare Band's freeform psyche-metal went further than any band before them. Although the band did not release their first album until the early 1990s, they had made numerous recordings on a reel-to-reel tape deck in a basement. As Scare Band drummer Jeff Litrell recalls: “We played live almost every night, it was just that we did it down in the basement with only a few tripped-out freaks in attendance.” Songs from the album, Sleeping Sickness, started to get a lot of play on FM stations WFMU and WNYU in New York, which played a role in lifting JPT up from obscurity.
